It started as a mommy blog. Joaquin was 5 months old when I felt that I had to write down everything happening to him, to me and to our young family because everything was happening too fast! It started out as Mommy Chinky as it was just documenting anything and everything about being a mommy.
But as the months went by, there was a stirring in me that there could be something more with the blog. I teach Theology to young college ladies in an exclusive all-girls college. But don’t get fooled to thinking of how heavy the subject is. For me, theology is simply all about God’s Love. :)
One thing that I have in class is what I call “kwento time.” I give a few minutes to anyone who wants to share anything and everything. It’s not just narrating their stories, But there must be a reflection about their life experiences. They get to share their experiences of God’s love through it. How they appreciate the simply things in life or how something good came out of a not-so-good experience.
Of course, I also began sharing my stories with them. Occassionally, I would mention that I blog and that they can read more about “my kwento” there. Some of my students would then share that they actually visited my blog and enjoyed reading it. It was then that I realized that these young ladies are my audience and I could share more inspiration, positivity and God’s love to them through this.
I’ve also realized that my identity as a missionary did not end when I decided to become a college professor. I became a lay missionary for a Catholic community for almost 10 years and had the opportunity to be sent to different mission areas both locally and internationally – around Asia, Canada and Europe. I even spent 2 years in the Middle East: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and even Nepal. Ministering to the youth and to kids allowed me to automatically be an “Ate” to the young ones.
Lately, I had the chance to simply “be there” for a young girl as she went through the struggles that life threw at her. I pretty much didn’t know what to say. I didn’t have a solution to her problems. But there was just a special bond at that moment. Sharing my personal stories of failing, frustrations and trials in life allowed me to connect with her. And hopefully the message of healing, moving forward, letting go and being hopeful in life stays with her too.
The blog feature Teaching Tuesdays is specially dedicated to these young ladies (those who are problem-free as well as those in a rut, so to speak) as it tackles teaching moments in life, inspired moments and life-long learnings. This is “kwento time” in light of the faith, inspiration, life and love online. This is sharing life’s lessons, appreciating the simple and complicated things in life, holding on, letting go and being hopeful in life!
But that’s not all that they can read in the blog. I’m sure they can also learn from realizations, inspirations and Looking At The Bright Side of life in terms of being a wife, for 4 years already this year (Wifely Wednesdays) and being a mom (Mommy Mondays) because there’s a high probability that they will also be a wife and mother someday. The rest of the blog features are Thankful Thursdays, Feature Fridays, Special Saturdays and Saintly Sundays which are all about faith, inspiration, life and love!
More than just being a mommy blog, I blog because I have been blessed. I blog because I have experienced God’s love. I blog because I want to share God’s love to others.
