Spending the last 7 days of the year in Lucena was precious. It was not just a time for Joaquin to spend quality time with his grandparents or play with cousins, Ate Zainab and Kuya Yuzri but it was also a time to get to know my husband a little bit more.
Since this was the longest time that I have spent in Lucena with Wally’s family, I was able to find out why he has certain qualities that have endeared him to me ever since Day 1. And so I have chosen three qualities that I come to love in my husband. And here they are:
I must admit that at the start of the relationship, this was something that we had to adjust in. Wally grew up in family that is connected – all the time. Their way of showing love is keeping in touch no matter the distance from one another. Having family in Manila, Lucena, the US and now Canada had made them make the extra effort to keep in touch and connected with each other. On the contrary, our family was intact when I was growing up. And that probably is the reason why we’re not as ‘connected’ to each other as Wally’s family is. This was something that we had to learn to adjust in. Honestly, speaking I think Wally and I have exchanged in the levels of wanting to be connected to each other because of all the adjusting already. Haha
Being a thinker.
Wally is the type of person who likes to think of ways to simplify and improve things. And this was something that he got from his dad. I saw how his father was making his own shelves from some discarded wood and planning on removing part of the wall in one room since it was blocking the flow of the air in the room. Wally is like that also. He likes to fix things and make them more efficient. He wants to maximize resources and basically make this world a better place to live in.
Being a family man.
It’s not hard to see where Wally gets his great love for family. He grew up in a family that is full of love one that gives utmost priority to family. Sure, there’s no perfect family in the world. But they have made the most out of what they have and have truly placed value in the gift of family.
These are just 3 of the qualities that I saw in Wally that he definitely got from his family. And these are 3 things that I love about my husband. So, I thank you my dear parents-in-law for guiding, inspiring and loving Wally to be the person he is today.
